The Daily Brew #27 (Indian soap opera)

Hello everyone, how are you all? How’s your day? It’s your new daily brew, and this time with a twist, an Indian twist; if you love India and Indian drama, you’ll love this post; before going into a journey to the desi drama, let’s grab a coffee or any drink you love and let’s go.

Indian dramas or soap operas are most known for their long period running shows; they can run for 5 years or 10 years; I know it’s difficult to keep watching a show for 10 or 5 or 4 years of your time, and the Indian shows’ episodes are 20 to 25 minutes, 5 episodes per week, in India, they air the shows from Monday to Friday; those are the most popular format…

I will not talk about all the shows or in general; I will talk about one show that has been running from late 2019 till the present day for around 4 years, called “Yeh Hai Chahatein” which means this is my desired love.

It’s a spin-off from another show called “Yeh Hai Mohabbatein” on Star Plus channel, Hotstar online platform, produced by Ekta Kapoor, one of the most famous filmmakers and producers in India; the main roles were Abrar Qazi in the role of Rudraksh “Rudra” Khurana, a rockstar and Samrat “Sam” Khurana, also a rockstar; Sargun Kaur Luthra in the role of Dr. Preesha Srinivasan Khurana and Dr. Nayantara “Nayan” Iyer Khurana.

Abrar and Sargun acted for 4 years in the show as main roles and then came other main actors to lead the show; a spoiler alert, so if you want to watch the show, skip this part…

The story is about a Gynecologist doctor called Preesha raising her nephew as her son called Saransh, he didn’t even know that he’s not her real son; she loves him so much and he loves her too; on the other side there’s Rudra, a rockstar, who doesn’t believe in love, the only one he loved the most was his elder brother Rajeev; Rajee is a support system to his brother Rudra, Preesha in the first was engaged to a lawyer called Yuvraj, who is the main villain of the show, Yuvraj wanted to be with Preesha not for love but for his interest of becoming the younger judge in Delhi; as Preesha’s father was well-known judge, then Yuvraj will know that Saransh is actually Rajeev’s son, so will start blackmailing Rajeev to get money from him and before a couple of hours of his wedding with Preesha he will murder Rajeev.

Rudra will think that Preesha is the one who killed his brother as she said that she’s the killer by accident to save Yuvraj, Yuvraj convinced her that it was an accident and that Rajeev is Saransh’s real father; Rudra also knew about Saransh and will marry Preesha to take the custody, here begin Rudra and Preesha’s love story…

We will see their fights that get them closer and fall in love with each other; also, will see how Preesha will know the real face of Yuvraj, and will also face Rudra’s family and her family in the beginning against that marriage…

I won’t tell the full story, but I’m here to talk about something I don’t like in Indian Drama, 1st, let’s begin with the script, the story is good, nice, and something easy to watch on screen, the bad things or disadvantages of the script are the plots and twists, they are so much that you feel like watching a sad show or something, always a twist and plot to make the main roles fight, separate, cry and feel pain; the villains always win and when they lose another villain comes after them without taking a break or something; also they don’t just win, the male protagonist always trust everyone but his wife, and always misunderstand her.

Always blame her over everything, be angry over everything, judge her all the time, make the same mistake not once or twice, but all the time; and of course, she always forgives him; the female protagonist always has to give clarification and prove her innocence; unfortunately, that show is full of many plots that you feel tired of making the lovers fight all the time and the few scenes of them loving each other, some of them were dreams, imagination, and some were before the next villain comes and separate them again.

Another bad thing in the script is the story events, the events are not good, you see something this week and the next week see another unrelated thing and they forgot what they did the last week; for example, before the Covid and before the show stopped for a while before the world wide shut down and curfew; there was an event about Preesha’s father take some money from the bank and that money is to develop the neighborhood they live in; that money belonged to everyone lives in the neighborhood; but this money had been stolen by Yuvraj, of course, Preesha’s father didn’t know who stole it, so the people in the neighborhood want the money back, so there as a conversation between Preesha’s Mom and Dad, the man told his wife about that problem, but when the show back after the shutdown ended, they changed that and showed us that Preesha’s Mom doesn’t know anything…

And much more incidents like this, that wasn’t nice at all because it makes the show feels awkward and not written with concentration, it was written just for the TRP, only to make the show runs longer and not give attention to the script; also the leap thing; a leap of time is famous in Indian shows, it’s a period of time pass, like after 5 years or 10 or 20; the bad thing about that, after a year or 5 or 20 or 10 or whatever years, it’ll always be 2023 or 2022 like they don’t think about it, like it never changes, yeah they say after years, but still same year; no changes, I think that’s because the production tries to save much to not pay a lot in the shows!

The Production thing is also one of the disadvantages, the cinematography is very basic and no good graphics, no good equipment; like action scenes are so bad, I’m sorry for saying this, but those scenes are the worst; also, the outdoor shooting is hilarious, because the graphic design is like using windows 98 paint or something, not a good program like Adobe; so we are talking about a production tries to cut the money to save a lot without thinking that they damage the show!

The shows have good stories and can be so good if only they give attention to the script, the making, the post-production, the clothes and makeup, and a lot more, I think they should stop thinking about longing the shows and the TRPs and start spending money on good shows with good stories and good minds can work on the graphics, the action sequences and so on…

I loved that show and loved the chemistry between Abrar and Sargun, it was amazing; I loved their idea of love and that love never dies; I think that’s something I love the most in the Indian shows, the idea of passionate love and how they give you that the idea of the true love never dies; I loved the role of Saransh and how he respects his mother, his love for her unconditionally, always protecting her and believing in her; I loved the relationship between mother-in-law and her daughter in law; loved the story in general, but not the so many villains and so many plots and twists one after another after another so quickly.

I love Abrar’s acting so much, he’s brilliant and became his fan, will talk about him in another post 😉 ❤ also loved Sargun, she’s so good; loved the boy who acted Saransh when he was 13 or something.

I know this daily brew was so long and hope you love it; till the next time stay safe, smile, be happy and never give up; love you all. ❤ ❤ XO XO XO
